Your choice
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether to accept cookies that count visits. Until you accept, no analytics cookies are set. If you choose Reject, none are ever set. Your choice is remembered for 30 days, and you can change it whenever you like.
The cookies this site sets
| Cookie | Set by | What it is for | When | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wpconsent_preferences | This site (the WPConsent plugin) | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected cookies, so the banner does not ask again. | As soon as you make a choice | 30 days |
| hcdn | Our hosting provider's network | Set by the hosting network when it delivers a page. | On your first page | Until you close your browser |
| _ga | Google Analytics | Gives your browser an ID so repeat visits can be counted. | Only if you accept statistics cookies | Up to 2 years (some browsers cap this at 400 days) |
| _ga_E1NL9BWQVV | Google Analytics | Keeps session information for this site's Analytics property. | Only if you accept statistics cookies | Up to 2 years (some browsers cap this at 400 days) |
The hosting network may also set a cookie named __cf_bm when it checks a browser for automated traffic.
If you decline
Declining means no analytics cookies are set. Your browser may still contact Google's servers when a page loads, because the analytics tag is on the page, but it does not store anything in your browser.
Not a cookie: your calculator progress
The calculator saves your progress and any unsent enquiry in your browser's local storage, under the name et_quote_state_v1, so you can come back to it. That is not a cookie and it never leaves your device unless you submit the form. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Blocking or deleting cookies
Every browser lets you block cookies or delete the ones already stored, in its privacy settings.
